Welcome back, it’s been a busy school week for me, and it’s weekend where I live, so basically i’m not fully free of duties, cause i got the blog, i just cleaned up my brushes, i have an algebra test on Sunday, and i have to go Eid shopping today with my mom 🙂
anyways, i made this new series (What’s up with me and making a series out of everything?!), whatever.
so, this series is contains some tips on what to do with your makeup for special occasions, from face prep, to eye makeup, to the perfect selection of lip makeup..
so, this is a sub-series from the Shahad’s Beauty Book. and for today, i’m going to talk about how to prep your face (fool proof) ..
..The night before..
while you’re taking a shower before hand after you did everything that you normally do in the shower, exfoliate your face, i know that you do this all the time, but it really does create a really beautiful canvas to work with.
Why the day before? because if you exfoliate on the day of the occasion, your skin cells will be ultra sensitive, and if you immediately put on makeup on top, you might have breakouts, because your skin cells haven’t made a barriers or guards to protect them from any chemicals or bacteria.
My favorite is the VLCC scrub, it’s cream-based so it won’t dry out your skin, plus the beads are quite small, but rough, it’s abrasive but not harsh. plus it got natural oatmeal in it, so it’s fantastic for your skin.
..The morning of the event..
apply masks, if you got dry skin, i highly suggest applying the Caudalie Hydrating mask, and for all skin types, i suggest The Body Shop Honey & Oat Mask, you can use The Body Shop mask instead of the whole scrub your face shenanigan; because the mask itself got some chunky and soft oat beads, so you can use it as an all-in-one, but it really brightens your skin, i speak of a personal experience.
by the way, i feel like applying both masks with a flat foundation brush, will make you feel like you’re in a spa or something, and after you finish applying it, you massage it in with your warm, clean fingers.
as for TBS mask, i normally do it with my fingers because i like working the oat beads in. but you can do it either way.
Scrub.Your.Lips..!!! Why is this so important? Do you want to have chapped lips on a day of an event? Hell no. Do you want your lipstick to go Oh-So-Smoothly? Hell yes. Then go and exfoliate your lips.. you can do that olive oil and sugar scrub (I’ve done it so many times) but since i have this one, i thought about giving you a really nice recipe, on how to work with a really loose and dry sugar scrub, cause i tried using it on its own, didn’t work for me.
So, what you need to do, is grab a finger-full of Vaseline, and a finger-full of the scrub; and mix them together until it creates a textured paste..
What the Vaseline does, is that it gives the loose dry sugar particles a grip for your lips, plus it hydrates just like a body scrub with Shea butter in it, it exfoliates, but gives a hint of moisture. Scrub away the dead skin, leave for 5 minutes, and scrub and wipe off the excess over the sink. and you’re revealed with a really nice, smooth lips !
Apply lip balms immediately, because if you don’t; you’ll have chapped lips again.
I have these 2 lip balms that i love for before makeup, because both of them are not glossy, nor slippery.
The Labello Soft Rosé gives a velvet matte finish to the lips, but quite moisturizing.
The Weleda Everon, gives a really natural finish, it’s quite hard to apply, and it’s great because you prevent applying too much at once, plus it’s a wellness brand, so it got beeswax and multiple butters, so it’s quite great.
Rosewater is the ultimate toner, i know Candice Swanepoel uses this as her toner. It is known to soothe out your skin, and it’s quite cooling, it would cool-off the red on the skin. plus if you got dry skin, it will hydrate it.
For your eyes, apply a serum first (Just like your skin, except the fact that i don’t wear face serums!) I love this Keihl’s Super Multi-Corrective Eye-Opening Serum, it’s so good, but i love to apply cream on to because it can get sticky this particular serum, and i don’t want a really sticky base for my concealer, especially that i got a dry eye area, i will apply the L’Oreal RevitaLift Laser Renew/ Laser x3 eye cream, it is so good, and it hydrates beautifully, great base for concealer.
For face lotions, i got 2 options for you, one for dry-super dry skin, and one for oily, combination, normal skin.
Oily, Combo, Normal: L’Oreal Hydra-Total 5 Normal Gel-Cream.
This is my holy-grail, it’s gel-based; so it almost feels like water on your skin, it’s so great, i can’t rave enough about it. and you can find it in your local drugstore near you.
Dry-Super Dry: Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré.
I got this from France, explains why the name is in French, but gives your skin that cashmere feeling on your skin, it’s absolutely amazing for dry skinned people. you can use it if you want to go for that dewy foundation look, but it’s really hydrating.
and Voila! you got yourself a heavy makeup skin ready *applause*
That was it for today’s post, and soon i will write a post about the full coverage foundation routine, until then..
